About six crore devotees are expected to take a holy dip in Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya on 29 January 2025, which will probably make it the largest gathering of people in a city for a day in world history. The central and state governments have made special arrangements for the smooth bathing, transportation and security of the pilgrims for the Mahakumbh 2025.

Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra visited Prayagraj on Friday to review the progress of around 250 projects of Mahakumbh worth about Rs 15,000 crores. He also gave necessary guidelines regarding the arrangements to be made for the “Shahi Snan”. He also took stock of  the planning made for the transportation and security of the devotees.

Kumbh Mela official Vijay Kiran Anand said that 2,025 special trains and 10,000 Kumbh Mela special buses will be run from nine states for four days from 21 states of the country. He also said that arrangements are being made for parking of six lakh vehicles and for the stay of devotees at Prayagraj’s Bamrauli Airport, Kanpur, Lucknow and Varanasi Airport.

The Prayagraj Airport is also undergoing a major redevelopment project before the 2025 Mahakumbh, which will be held at Triveni Sangam of the city. The airport will have a new terminal building, increased seating capacity, more checking counters and additional aerobridges. The redevelopment will cost Rs 175 crore and will be completed by September-October 2024.
