Mahakumbh 2025: The religious event Mahakumbh on Wednesday concluded with almost 66 crore devotees taking a holy dip in the Ganga river in Prayagraj. The devotees from all the regions of the country arrived in Prayagraj to participate in the auspecious event by accessing public transport, especially through trains.

Several of the viral visuals suggested that railways emerged as the main source of transportation for the devotees. The officials stated that Mahakumbh has provided a great financial boost to the railways. One of the officials stated that Pratapgarh Junction of Uttar Pradesh generated a lot of wealth as residents from several districts of Uttar Pradesh and other states, especially Bihar, boarded trains from the station to reach Prayagraj.

The official informed that barely 800 to 1,000 of the passengers boarded trains from this station ahead of Mahakumbh, generating not more than 2 lakh per month. However, he stated that the situation completely changed during the religious event. All the platforms of the Pratapgarh junction were usually filled with the devotees. The devotees had to struggle to board trains even after more than two dozen special trains operated through this station.

Pratapgarh Junction generated more than Rs 20 crore, indicating the mass profit the department has generated during the course of over a month. While the devotees came to board the train every day in huge numbers, the data suggested that most of the devotees gathered on some special occasions, including Paush Purnima, Vasant Panchami, Mauni Amavasya, Maghi Purnima, and Mahashivratri.

The officials stated that almost 167,820 devotees traveled to Prayagraj through Pratapgarh Junction, and the estimated amount generated is Rs 20 crore 6 lakhs 91 thousand 450. The officials stated that they were left surprised by the numbers, adding that the event has provided a major boost to the finances of the railways.
