Mahakumbh Stampede: A major stampede that took place in the early hours of January 29, Mauni Amavasya, claimed 30 lives and injured several. Amid the tense situation, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to pay a visit to the Mahakumbh Mela site in Prayagraj to review the arrangements.
A day after a stampede at the MahaKumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government ramped up efforts to ensure crowd management and safety of devotees who continued to flock here in large numbers for the religious gathering. The devotees braved the pre-dawn chill and dense fog to take a dip in the Sangam and at other ghats here on Thursday.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, more than 45.11 lakh pilgrims visited the Mahakumbh till 8 AM, according to the Uttar Pradesh Information Department. More than 10 lakh Kalpwasis are present at the Sangam, while the total number of devotees who took a holy dip at the Sangam on Thursday morning stood at over 55.11 lakh.

Mahakumbh Stampede: UP Dy CM Brajesh Pathak Assures Strict Action Against Guilty
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Thursday, said that the state government has taken the stampede incident at Mahakumbh very seriously and has set up a judicial inquiry commission to investigate the matter.
Speaking on the incident, Pathak stated, "The government has taken the incident of Prayagraj very seriously. A judicial inquiry commission has been set up. Whoever is found guilty after the investigation report will be subjected to strict action."

Mahakumbh Stampede: Preparations In Full Swing For Amrit Snan On Vasant Panchami
DGP Prashant Kumar and Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh on Thursday, arrived in Prayagraj to inspect the stampede that occurred on 29 January on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. They will also oversee the security arrangements ahead of the third Amrit Snan scheduled for 3 February on the occasion of Vasant Panchami.

Mahakumbh Stampede: PIL in SC for safety measures, guidelines for pilgrims
In the wake of the recent stampede at the Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, a PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to put in place safety measures and guidelines for pilgrims from across the country. The petition sought the direction that VIP movement shall not affect or create a danger to the common devotees' safety and maximum space for entry and exit of devotees at Mahakumbh shall be provided.
The PIL filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari said he mentioned the matter for early hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna, who asked him to file an application before the court Registry. The petition also sought direction from the Uttar Pradesh government to submit a status report on the Mahakumbh 2025 stampede incident that took place on January 29 and also directed to initiate legal action against the persons, authorities and officials for their negligent conduct.
