BSP Chief Mayawati on Monday expelled the ex-party national coordinator Akash Anand from the party. He was removed from the senior posts on Sunday, citing his relations with party rebels. Mayawati had stated that she will not announce any successor until her last breath.
The step from BSP chief is significant as she had declared Akash as her "only successor" last year. However, Akash was under scanner due to his alleged relations with party rebels. While removing Anand from top posts of the party, Mayawati stated that Anand was expelled because of his relations with expelled BSP leader and previous member of parliament Ashok Siddhartha.

Anand is the Siddharth's son-in-law and has been in contact with him even after Mayawati expelled him from the party. “You are aware that Siddharth’s daughter is married to him. We will have to watch how much influence Siddharth will exert on his daughter as well as Akash. In such a situation Akash has been removed from all party responsibilities. Siddharth is completely responsible for this and has damaged the party while ruining Akash’s career,” Mayawati stated.
Akash was also removed from the post of national coordinator in the middle of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. BSP leaders stated that he was removed from the post of his political "immaturity" and speaking against the party line. Several reports suggested that Anand was removed from his post because of the aggressive campaigning against BJP.

However, he was reinstated on June 23, a few weeks after the Lok Sabha results were announced. While announcing his comeback, Mayawati declared him her “only successor”.
Mayawati on Sunday stated that she will not declare anyone until her last breath and will continue to monitor the party's activities. She added that the successor of the party must have respect for the party's ideology and must have the spirit of late Dalit leader Kanshiram.
