In a joint meeting of the District Ganga Committee, Meerut, District Tree Plantation Committee, and District Environment Committee, District Magistrate Dr VK Singh outlined several key initiatives for environmental conservation and river rejuvenation.
The DM instructed the Namami Gange Unit (Rural) of Jal Nigam to conduct a drone survey of drains flowing into the Kali river and submit a detailed report to the District Ganga Committee. He also directed the Municipal Commissioner to identify suitable land for constructing a proposed 65 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) on Abu Nala One, coordinating with the Cantonment Board if required.

District officials from Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and the District Development Office were asked to jointly prepare a ten-day action plan for the rejuvenation of the Kali River. During the meeting, as part of Seva Pakhwada (Service Fortnight), the DM administered a cleanliness pledge to all officials present.
The District Panchayati Raj Officer was instructed to work with Sardhana Municipality to manage solid waste along the banks of the Kali River, including procuring machinery for waste disposal. Public awareness programmes are also to be conducted along the Ganga, Hindon, and Kali rivers.

Further directives included forming a Gramin Chaupal (Village Meeting) and sharing its details with the Forest Department, enforcing Supreme Court orders on firecrackers, and implementing Mission Shakti initiatives in 50 girls’ schools, including Kasturba Vidyalayas.
The next meeting to review the Kali River rejuvenation proposal is scheduled in 15 days. Officials present included CDO Nupur Goyal, Divisional Director of Social Forestry Vandana Phogat, ADM Administration Satya Prakash Singh, PDDRDA Sunil Kumar Singh, District Panchayati Raj Officer Virendra Singh, and PWD XEN Satendra Singh.
