Meerut Govt Approves Rs 56 Crore For Development Projects; Focus On Street Lights, Roads | Details

The Meerut Infrastructure Development Fund Committee has approved Rs 56 crore for 14 projects, with a focus on street lighting and road upgrades. The decision was made in a meeting held at Vikas Bhawan under the chairmanship of Mayor Harikant Ahluwalia and in the presence of DM Dr VK Singh, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Gangwar, and officials from the PWD and Meerut Development Authority on Monday. 

Under the initiative, emphasis has been placed on improving the city's street lights, for which a system for automatically switching the lights on and off has been approved. Along with this, Victoria lights are set to be installed on main roads, while high-mast lights will be installed at intersections and public places. The committeewill purchase hydraulic elevators to repair the lights.

Under the initiative, Western Kutchery Road, from Eves Intersection (Madhav Chowk) to Ambedkar Chowk, will be constructed using white-topping technology. Four roads have already been built using this technology, as building roads with fibre-reinforced concrete reduces the likelihood of damage from waterlogging. 

In the meeting, instructions were given to prepare a proposal for developing a central divider, floral decorations, and a green belt on the road from the Commissionerate office to the Circuit House via Ambedkar Intersection, and another for developing footpaths on both sides and a green belt on the central divider from Saket Imli Intersection to the Commissionerate office intersection. A cost assessment report is to be submitted once the proposals are drafted. 

The Infrastructure Development Fund Committee also approved a beautification plan for Mawana Road, Ganganagar Tiraha, Ambedkar Square, Kachari Road, Medical Gate Tirah, and Hans Square, along with the beautification of Begalpul, now Bharat Mata Chowk. The meeting called for detailed testing and surveys, followed by expert opinion, to prepare designs for these works.

Budget Allocated for Key Projects: 

-17 primary schools will be renovated with Rs 2.44 crore.

-Six hydraulic elevators will be purchased for street lighting at Rs 2 crore.

-A system for switching on and off automatic street lights will be developed for Rs 3 crore.

-High mast lights will be installed at major intersections and public places at Rs 2 crore.

-Kanha Gaushala Partapur will be upgraded with Rs 3.61 crore.

-196 vending shops will be built at various places at a cost of Rs 5.07 crore.

-Open gyms will be established in 100 parks with Rs 10 crore.

-The marriage hall transferred from Meda will be constructed in Pallavapuram at Rs 3 crore.

-Construction of an underground drain on the new road for Rs 1.65 crore.

-A concrete road will be constructed from Madhav Chowk to Ambedkar Chowk via Shankar Ashram for Rs 4.50 crore.

-Renovation of Sardar Patel Inter College, Sharda Road, for Rs 5.21 crore.

-Beautification of five intersections, including Bharat Mata Chowk, at Rs 11 crore.

-Proposal to install Victoria lights on main roads for Rs 2 crore.
