Meerut Namo Bharat Train: The Namo Bharat train is set to begin passenger services from Meerut South, specifically from Bhudbaral station, marking a significant milestone for the country’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Notably, this corridor will also host metro services, making it the first instance where a metro line operates alongside a semi-high-speed train.
Meerut Namo Bharat Train: Inauguration
With the ongoing expansion of metro projects by both the central and state governments, it is anticipated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Meerut to inaugurate this section. The metro will serve a total of 13 stations along a 23-kilometre stretch in Meerut, with operations commencing at six of those stations. The CRMS (Commission for Railway Safety) investigation related to this service is expected to be completed within a week or two.
Metro Operations To Begin In Phases
Before any metro or train project can begin operations, an inspection by the Central Metro Railway Safety Commissioner (CMRS) is mandatory. The CMRS team grants permission for service only after a thorough assessment of safety measures, including emergency services and the condition of entry and exit gates. The inauguration date will be set following this inspection and if all is found satisfactory, a security certificate will be issued.
Trial Runs In Final Phase
Preparations for the trial runs are now complete, with testing currently taking place up to Shatabdinagar station. The trials for the Meerut Metro are being conducted until Meerut Central Football Chowk station and both trials are planned to be extended to Modipuram soon.
It is expected that these extended trials will commence within this week. The overall aim is to start operations on the 82-kilometre project by June 2025, with the NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation) actively working on preparations. Following two to three months of trials, services may begin towards Modipuram, bringing the project closer to its operational goals.
