Meerut Nauchandi Mela: Meerut's Nauchandi Fair was inaugurated on Monday at Patel Mandap, located in the Nauchandi Mela Ground. The event was officially opened by Dharmpal Singh, the Animal Husbandry and In-charge Minister, who lit a ceremonial lamp and worshipped Chandi Devi with traditional rituals.

The inauguration also marked the beginning of various cultural programmes at Patel Mandap. Bhajan singer Swami Surendra Buddhiraja enthralled attendees with a series of devotional songs, including the popular “Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai, Mata Ne Bulaya Hai.” A total of 32 programmes are scheduled to take place until June 26, providing a rich cultural experience for visitors.

The fair commenced at 6 PM, drawing a large crowd of devotees eager to enjoy the bhajans. The fairgrounds were brightly illuminated with artificial lights and numerous stalls have been set up, with more expected to open in the coming days. The establishment of Mata ki Chowki and the start of cultural activities promise to enhance the vibrancy of this year's fair.

Prominent figures, including Minister of State for Energy Dr. Somendra Tomar, Mayor Harikant Ahluwalia, Cantt MLA Amit Aggarwal, MLC Ashwini Tyagi and Dharmendra Bhardwaj, attended the inauguration. Minister Singh encouraged the public to participate in the fair, emphasising its significance to Meerut. He assured that officials would manage the event responsibly.

However, some shopkeepers expressed concerns about waterlogging in the fairgrounds, which can occur even with light rain, causing difficulties for vendors. They have called for improvements to the drainage system, as well as better arrangements for drinking water and toilets. Additionally, several electricity poles in the area are leaning precariously.
