In a brazen display of lawlessness, a group of students created chaos in the city’s prominent Abu Lane market on Tuesday afternoon. The youths assaulted a businessman, harassed his sister, and vandalised their vehicle in broad daylight. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, leading to police action.

The Incident

The incident occurred around 2:30 pm when a businessman, a resident of Ganganagar, picked up his sister from a college in Shastrinagar and was driving towards his workplace in Abu Lane. While traveling from Kutchery along Abu Nala Road, the businessman's car accidentally brushed against a scooter near Dayanand Hospital.

According to reports, the students riding the scooter made inappropriate remarks directed at the businessman's sister. When the businessman objected to the harassment, the students called their associates for backup. The group attempted to intercept the car near Nishant Cinema and finally forced the vehicle to stop near the Hyundai agency.

Assault And Vandalism

The situation escalated rapidly as the youths climbed onto the bonnet of the car and smashed its windows. Despite the victims attempting to drive away, the attackers pursued them to Fawwara Chowk, approximately one kilometre away. There, in front of a crowd, they dragged the businessman out and brutally assaulted him with kicks and punches.

Public Apathy And Security Questions

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding safety in the city's main market.

Police Proximity: The assault took place merely 250 metres from the Begumpul police post. The victims attempted to alert the police post during the chase, but the attackers intercepted them.

Public Reaction: Instead of intervening to stop the assault, bystanders reportedly recorded videos of the violence on their mobile phones.
