Noida Airport Update: Jewar Airport, also known as Noida International Airport (NIA) will become a key stop on the upcoming Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail corridor, said Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Noida International Airport, as quoted by a Financialexpress report. With the operations set to begin in April, the Uttar Pradesh government said it has provided all basic civic services, which were promised as per the agreement signed in March 2021 with Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the concessionaire for Noida International Airport.

Schnellmann also highlighted that “the first phase of development will have one runway and one terminal, with a capacity to accommodate annual traffic of 12 million passengers. However, after the completion of all four development phases, the airport will have the capacity to cater to 70 million passengers annually.”

Schnellmann also highlighted the robust network of flights connecting Noida International Airport to major Indian metros, as well as a variety of regional and international destinations. We’re working closely with airlines to establish a comprehensive route map that will offer travelers convenient access to a wide range of locations across the country and beyond, he was quoted in the report. The details are expected to be out closer to the opening date of the Noida airport.

Noida Airport Connectivity

With just three months away from launch, passengers might have thoughts about the airport’s connectivity to the nearby areas and the modes of transport available. Jewar, where the airport is situated, is around 90 km from IGI Airport in Delhi, 70 km from Connaught Place, 60 km from Noida City Centre and 40 km from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, the last point on the metro grid.

The airport’s feasibility will depend on its first phase footfall, for which the target is 5-6 million passengers in the first year. For this to happen, the next few months will have to be hard work on the ground because there is no public transport to Jewar, barring a handful of private and UP Roadways bus routes.
