A massive fire engulfed the building of a leather manufacturing company in Noida’s Sector 65 in the wee hours of Sunday. As many as 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. As per the Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Pradeep Kumar, the fire seems to have broken out due to a short circuit.

The visuals, shared by news agency ANI, show the flames gripping the building from the bottom to the top floor. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

"We received information about the fire in a leather manufacturing company at around 4.30 am. 15 fire tenders were sent to the spot and the fire has been extinguished. No casualties or injuries were reported. It seems the fire broke out due to a short circuit," Kumar said.

This came days after a major fire broke out at the Ghazipur garbage site in east Delhi due to a chemical reaction of toxic gases. Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons in the matter. As per the police, an investigation was initiated, and a case has been filed at Ghazipur police station under the Indian Penal Code sections 336 (pertaining to actions endangering the lives or safety of others) and 278 (related to creating an environment hazardous to health).

A political furore between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ensued immediately after the fire incident was reported. The BJP criticized the Delhi government for failing to fulfil its commitment made during the MCD polls to reduce the landfill site.

“A huge fire has broken out at Delhi's Ghazipur landfill. Toxic smoke is floating in the air. Fraud Arvind Kejriwal fought the MCD elections by showing a photo of this Ghazipur landfill. This smoke is as poisonous as Kejriwal's lies and is endless,” BJP leader Kapil Mishra posted on X.

However, the AAP said it was not the time for a political blame game and they must focus on dousing the fire.

Notably, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promised to clear this landfill site by December 31 last year, before the 2022 MCD elections. The BJP alleged the height of the landfill has since increased.
