Noida Flood Alert: Evacuation Advisory Issued In Jewar, Power Cut In Low-Lying Areas

Continuous heavy rainfall in the hills has begun to impact the plains, with the Yamuna river swelling due to sustained water discharge from the Hathni Kund barrage. Since Monday morning, 3.29 lakh cusecs of water have been released, raising fears of flooding in Jewar and surrounding areas. The released water is expected to reach Jewar by Tuesday night.

Following an alert, the administration has urged residents in flood-prone villages along the Yamuna to evacuate immediately. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhay Kumar Singh inspected Jhuppa, Shamshamnagar, Govindgarh, Kanigarhi, and Mehandipur Khadar on Monday evening, appealing to people to shift to higher ground along with their livestock. Power supply to tubewells inside the embankment has also been cut as a precautionary measure.

The tehsil administration has placed four flood outposts, Primary School Mevla Gopalgarh, Janta Inter College Jewar, Primary School Jhuppa, and Shiv Mandir Bhaipur Brahmanan, on high alert. A relief shelter has been set up at Junior High School Falainda Bangar. A 24-hour control room at Jewar Tehsil is also operational.

Officials identified 25 villages at risk, including Jhuppa, Govindgarh, Kanigarhi, Shamshamnagar, Mehandipur Khadar, Sirauli Khadar, Rampur Khadar, Karauli Khadar, Falainda Khadar, Machhipur Khadar, and Mevla Gopalgarh. Crops spread over 9,410 hectares of farmland may also be affected.

An embankment, built in 2002 after the devastating 1995 floods, now protects dozens of Jewar villages. However, officials warn that Mehandipur Khadar remains especially vulnerable.

The District Disaster Management Department has issued an advisory urging people to stay away from flood zones, avoid submerged underpasses, and use only boiled or chlorinated water. Drivers have been cautioned against slippery roads, poor visibility, and waterlogged areas.
