Residents of Noida and Ghaziabad will experience a water shortage starting Sunday, October 13, as the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department halts the Ganga water supply for 20 days. The disruption is due to the annual maintenance of the upper Ganga canal in Haridwar, which will affect around 10 lakh residents in areas such as Indirapuram, Vasundhara, Vaishali and Delta Colony.

Authorities from the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) have announced alternative water supply arrangements. However, water will only be available in the mornings and at low pressure. Residents may face reduced supply during this period.

The Ganga canal will remain closed until November 2 and over 10 lakh people in Trans Hindon and Siddharth Vihar will be affected. Water will also be provided once daily from tube wells as the Ganga water supply is expected to resume at midnight on November 2.

Neighbourhoods including Indirapuram's Abhay Khand, Nyay Khand, Gyan Khand and Vasundhara sectors 7, 8, 9, and 10, as well as Kaushambi and Vaishali sectors 5, 7 and 9, will be most affected heavenly with these water supply disruptions.

Some areas are already facing low water pressure due to a transformer issue. In Vasundhara Sector 9, residents have started purchasing bottled water to manage the shortage. Additionally, broken pipelines in Kaushambi and Vasundhara Sector 10 have worsened the situation, leaving some areas without water entirely.

With this prolonged disruption, residents are encouraged to conserve water and rely on alternative sources. The Ganga water supply is expected to return once maintenance work is completed on November 2.
