To enhance infrastructure with smarter and greener solutions, Noida International Airport has implemented a state-of-the-art intelligent lighting system. The Panitek Smart Lighting Solution, installed by Tata Projects Limited (EPC contractor) in partnership with Signify Innovations India Limited, is designed to save energy and promote an eco-friendly environment.
The system uses smart controllers, photosensing, and dynamic dimming technology, ensuring lights operate only when and where required. This not only supports safe operations across airport premises but also curbs unnecessary energy consumption.
Compared to conventional lighting, the smart system is expected to deliver up to 70 per cent energy savings and cut maintenance requirements by nearly 50 per cent. By reducing overuse and stress on fixtures, the installed lights are projected to last more than twice as long.
In addition, air quality monitoring sensors have been deployed at selected locations. These sensors will track volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), temperature, and humidity, while also providing real-time fault alerts to the airport’s control room.
The intelligent lighting also incorporates vehicle-detection sensors. Lights automatically adjust brightness based on traffic flow, offering full illumination during peak hours and dimmed lighting in low-traffic or empty zones. During mornings and evenings, the system balances natural light with energy-efficient dimming.
Nicholas Schenk, Chief Development Officer of Noida International Airport, said, "Our goal is to provide simple and smart lighting wherever it is needed. This technology will reduce energy consumption, minimise maintenance efforts, and give operations teams real-time control."
