In a surprising incident, a man was arrested for allegedly tying a dog to his car and dragging it for 3 kilometres in Noida, police said Saturday.
As per the complaint filed by the dog's owner, Shoba Rani, the incident occurred on Wednesday in the Nai Basti area in Greater Noida.
Rani alleged that the accused Amit's 10-year-old son had thrown a stone at her pet (German Shepherd) while passing by. The dog started barking at him. Surprised by the loud bark, the child fell to the ground.
Angered by this, Amit beat the 4-year-old animal with sticks. Afterwards, he tied it to his car and dragged it for 3 kilometres, Rani alleged.
Rani's husband told police that the dog was seriously injured in the act and was in critical condition.
Based on Rani and her husband's complaint, a case was registered against Amit. Amit was arrested on Friday and his car was also been seized, police said. However, the police added, Amit claimed that the dog had bitten his son.
Besides, some reports also suggest that the dog was dragged for 10-12 km. A TOI report said that Sharma owns a pharmacy in Dankaur.
On the basis of the complaint, Station House Officer, Dankaur Munendra Singh, said that an FIR was registered against Sharma under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Man thrashed dog in Greater Noida
A similar incident was reported in November last year when a Greater Noida man was caught on camera thrashing his pet dog and throwing it on the ground.
Ecotech-3 Police Station In-charge Anil Kumar Pandey said a video appeared on social media and the incident took place in Mahagun Mantra Society. The person was identified as 40-year-old Harishankar Gupta, he said. The video was widely shared and drew massive social media outrage.
