A man from Noida died purportedly when the driver of the cab he had booked fell asleep and the car slammed a stalled tempo, according to his family members. Rakesh Arora, 59, a resident of Garima Vihar in Sector 35, left his house at 3:50 AM on Saturday and was on his way to the airport to fly to Bengaluru for a business meeting when the tragedy occurred. He had booked an Uber.
The WagonR collided with a stalled tempo at the toll plaza for the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) flyway. The family stated that the driver fell asleep while driving.
Police said they were notified at 4:15 AM that a person was stuck inside a damaged vehicle. The driver, 32-year-old Sudhir, and Kumar were rushed to AIIMS, where the 59-year-old was confirmed dead.
Sudhir is undergoing treatment at the hospital. "Doctors have said he is unfit to give a statement, and the final medical opinion is pending. No witnesses have been found," said an official.
A first information report, has been filed. Uber has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Earlier, a 28-year-old Noida man and his 25-year-old friend died in Greater Noida after he lost control of a Ducati motorcycle, which crashed into a barricade wall and then plunged into a pit.
A tragic accident occurred near Char Murti Chowk in Greater Noida West around 1:56 AM on Tuesday, near the Gaur City underpass. CCTV footage of the incident has since emerged, showing the motorcycle approaching at high speed, crashing into a barricade, and then plunging into a 7-foot-deep construction site.
