The Noida Power Department, PVVNL (Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited), announced that the work to increase the capacity of the power transformer from 5 MVA to 10 MVA at the Sector 25 substation was completed on June 7. More than 20,000 residents in Sectors 25, 21, and 12 will benefit from an improved power supply following the upgrade of the 33/11 kV substation.
Officials stated that the enhancement was necessary to ease the growing load on the existing infrastructure. With this upgrade, the power distribution network across the three sectors is set to become more efficient and reliable.
"On June 7, the work of increasing the capacity of the power converter from 5 MVA to 10 MVA was completed at the substation in Sector 25 under the business plan works of 2024-25. With this work, an uninterrupted power supply will be provided to the consumers of Sectors 25, 21, and 12, especially in the summer season," said Sanjay Kumar Jain, Chief Engineer, Noida power department, PVVNL, according to TOI report.
Earlier, on May 21, a new 5 MVA transformer was installed at the Sector 80 substation. This upgrade was aimed at improving the power supply for residents of Sectors 80 and 112, according to Jain. He further explained that the step was taken in response to the rising electricity demand during the summer months.
"Given the increasing heat and power consumption, this upgrade was the need of the hour. This work will not only increase the availability of electricity but will also maintain the stability of voltage, which will provide relief to consumers from the problem of low voltage or power cuts," he said, according to TOI report.
According to a power department official, the capacity of power substations is being increased based on actual requirements, specifically in areas identified for upgrades. This move follows extensive surveys of densely populated regions and analysis of rising power demand over the years.
Power Demand In Noida
While the current power demand in Noida stands at 1,700 to 1,800 MW, it is expected to exceed 2,700 MW during the peak months of July and August. Ramesh Chandra, Executive Engineer of the Sector 25 substation, stated that the transformer capacity enhancement was carried out with the needs of both industrial and residential sectors in mind.
