The paperwork for Noida’s ambitious Safe City project has been completed, paving the way for the installation of 2,100 new CCTV cameras across the city. The Noida Authority will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) next week to invite companies to undertake the project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 212 crore.
Under the initiative, 2,100 night vision and face detection cameras will be set up at 561 locations across markets, metro stations, bus stands, schools, malls, and accident-prone areas. These cameras will function separately from the existing Integrated Security and Traffic Management System (ISTMS) and will be used solely for public safety and surveillance purposes.
A senior official said that a separate control room will be established for monitoring the new network. “The cameras will not be used for issuing traffic fines. However, they will be capable of capturing vehicle number plates and faces clearly for security purposes,” the official added.
Once the RFP process is completed, the selected company will be responsible for installing the cameras, laying optical fibre cables, erecting poles, and providing monitoring training. The project is expected to be completed within six to nine months, to make it operational by 2025.
Under the Safe City plan, Gautam Buddh Nagar district has been divided into two zones: Noida and Greater Noida. Both the Noida and Greater Noida Authorities will develop the CCTV infrastructure, while its operations will be managed by the police department.
The Safe City control rooms will be directly connected to the police headquarters. In case of any suspicious activity, the system will alert nearby police stations, posts, Police Response Vehicles (PRVs), and Dial-112 services immediately. Police stations and chowkis will also be equipped with monitoring screens linked to the main control room.
These screens will use colour-coded alerts to flag situations such as a woman standing alone or the possibility of overcrowding, enabling quicker response. Additionally, SOS points will be installed across the city, allowing residents to report emergencies directly to the police.
