Following the model of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra, Pradhan Mantri Pashu Aushadhi Kendras (Prime Minister's Veterinary Medicine Centres) are set to open in Noida, offering veterinary medicines at 50-90 per cent lower prices than market rates. The initiative aims to provide major financial relief to livestock owners and improve disease prevention in animals through access to quality, affordable medicines.
The Animal Husbandry Department has invited online applications for establishing these centres in Dadri, Jewar and Bisrakh development blocks, with the target of commencing operations from January, officials said.
Until now, veterinary medicines were available only through general medical stores, with no monitoring by drug inspectors or the Animal Husbandry Department. This lack of oversight led to complaints of poor-quality and overpriced veterinary drugs in the market.
The state government has issued orders to open the new centres, and pharmacists or licensed medical store operators are eligible to apply. After applications are received, preference will be given to those who meet the prescribed eligibility conditions.
