Noida News: Two young men, aged 22 and 23, lost their lives after leaving a pot of chickpeas cooking on a gas stove overnight. The incident occurred in Basai village, Sector 70, where the men operated a 'chhole bhature' and 'kulche' stall.

According to initial investigations, Upendra and Shivam placed the pot on the stove on Friday night and went to bed, forgetting to turn off the gas. The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rajiv Gupta, stated that as the chickpeas cooked, the room filled with smoke.

"With the door closed, the lack of oxygen combined with the smoke from the cooking food created a dangerous level of carbon monoxide in the house," Gupta explained. The men reportedly succumbed to suffocation from the toxic gas.

Neighbours noticed the smoke rising from the house a few hours later and forced the door open. They rushed both men to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival at the district hospital in Noida Sector 39. Authorities reported no visible injuries on their bodies and the police have since sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Carbon monoxide is a hazardous, odourless gas that can accumulate in enclosed spaces when fuels are burned, as seen with stoves, ovens and generators.
