Two young sisters allegedly killed themselves by consuming poison in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district on Sunday evening, police said. The incident occurred in the Puranpur police station area, where the sisters lived with their parents.

The victims were identified as Kashish (20) and Munni (18), who were daughters of a local corporator, Asim Raza. According to Circle Officer Alok Singh, the parents often quarrelled over family issues and had a heated argument on Sunday as well.

The sisters, who were fed up with the constant fights, decided to end their lives and ingested poison. They were rushed to the district hospital but could not be saved.

The family members initially resisted the police intervention and refused to hand over the bodies. However, police managed to send the bodies for post-mortem after deploying additional force in the area.

Police are investigating the case and have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

In another case of death of a teenager by suicide in Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old student killed himself driven by remarks of two teachers from her school in Muzaffarnagar district. The teachers allegedly taunted the girl for her poor economic condition and lower caste when she questioned one of the teachers when she was given a fee receipt for an amount lower than she actually paid.
