As the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) completes a decade this month, the scheme has emerged as a motivator for self-employment and women empowerment in UP’s Raebareli district. A total of 41,079 beneficiaries have availed loans worth Rs 630.02 crore under the scheme so far, enabling them to start and expand their businesses.

Among the many success stories is that of Manisha Rawat, who went on to meet the Prime Minister after achieving remarkable success through the scheme. Women like Sunita and Sandhya Tiwari have also become symbols of the scheme's impact. Sunita, once struggling with poverty, launched a tiffin business in October 2024 after receiving a Rs 9 lakh loan. Her enterprise now records an annual turnover of Rs 15 lakh and provides employment to 8–10 people.

Similarly, Sandhya Tiwari, who faced financial hardships, used a Mudra loan to start a pickle business. Without the need for collateral, she transformed her venture into a brand and is now supporting the livelihood of several other women.

The Mudra Yojana offers collateral-free loans ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 20 lakh, making it accessible to small-scale entrepreneurs. Officials highlight that nearly 40 per cent of the beneficiaries are women, underlining the scheme’s role in boosting women-led businesses and curbing migration by creating local employment opportunities.

The government maintains that the Mudra Yojana continues to fulfill its aim of empowering common citizens, enabling them to pursue self-reliance and economic progress without depending on external assistance.
