The Prayagraj Airport is set to undergo a major redevelopment project before the 2025 Mahakumbh, which will be held at Triveni Sangam. The airport will have a new terminal building, increased seating capacity, more checking counters and additional aerobridges. The redevelopment will cost Rs 175 crore and will be completed by September-October 2024.
The aim of the redevelopment is to provide world-class facilities to the passengers and to connect Prayagraj with almost every region of the country during Mahakumbh 2025. The airport will also have new arrangements as per international standards, such as a security hold area and a new roof.
The existing terminal building will be redeveloped first, followed by the construction of a new terminal building. The current seating capacity of 270 arriving and 270 departing passengers will be increased to 675 each. The airport director’s office, meeting hall and other facilities will be shifted to make space for the new systems, whereas the number of entry gates into the terminal will also be increased.
