A 21-year-old man died after colliding with an e-rickshaw on a busy bridge in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Saturday. The incident occurred when the e-rickshaw made an unexpected U-turn on a one-way road. The collision was captured on CCTV, which showed the e-rickshaw driver fleeing the scene immediately after the accident while the motorcyclist was lying on the New Yamuna Bridge.
The deceased, identified as Akash Singh, was employed at a private company and was on his way to work when the incident took place. He was rushed to the hospital by fellow commuters but succumbed to his injuries en route and was pronounced dead by a doctor.

Akash’s father, Ashwani Singh, filed a police complaint against the e-rickshaw driver following which a case was registered against the driver. The accident has also sparked outrage among local commuters, who have long voiced concerns over the traffic violations committed by e-rickshaw drivers.
According to the locals, e-rickshaw drivers frequently flout traffic regulations, posing a danger to other commuters. The incident has highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, especially concerning e-rickshaws, which are otherwise lauded for being an eco-friendly mode of transportation.
Commuters are calling for action to prevent such accidents from recurring, emphasising that the absence of emissions does not justify the disregard for traffic safety.
