The North Central Railways (NCR) has awarded a Pune-based company the work of installing 60 sleeping pods at Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj Junction. The sleeping pods, which are small capsule-sized rooms with hi-tech facilities, are expected to be open for travellers before the commencement of the Magh Mela on Makar Sankranti, January 14.
The sleeping pods will be installed at the old booking office on the Civil Lines side of Prayagraj Junction and will be equipped with a phone charging port, Wi-Fi network, locker rooms and deluxe bathrooms. The agency will also operate the Sleeping Pod Hotel, which will have a cafeteria. The Sleeping Pod Hotel will have bookings on a flexi-fare basis.
A single seated sleeping pod will cost Rs 500 for 12 hours, while a double bed will cost Rs 1,000 and a family pod will cost Rs 1,500. Ten of these pods will be reserved for women passengers, reported news agency IANS.
