Women Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition Minister Baby Rani Maurya on Monday launched the fifth phase of the Sambhav campaign—Sambhav 5.0—aimed at eliminating severe malnutrition in Uttar Pradesh. Inaugurated at the Renaissance Hotel, the campaign seeks to ensure timely identification and effective treatment of severely malnourished children across the state.
Minister Maurya emphasised that the success of the initiative hinges on real-time data tracking, consistent monitoring of children, pregnant women and lactating mothers, and robust inter-departmental coordination. She underlined the importance of sustained efforts at all levels for meaningful impact.
Launched originally in 2021, Sambhav has now entered its fifth edition. The latest phase will span three months, with each month dedicated to a focused theme—July will highlight Maternal Nutrition, August will focus on Care for Infants Up to Six Months, and September will be observed as Supplementary Diet and Nutrition Month.
During the event, outstanding contributions made during Sambhav 4.0 were also recognised. Districts including Shravasti, Varanasi, Unnao, Farrukhabad and Chandauli were felicitated for exemplary performance. Among the Anganwadi workers honoured with citations were Pankali (Shravasti), Sarita Devi (Varanasi), Sajani Awasthi (Unnao), Chandramukhi (Farrukhabad), and Sujata Kushwaha (Chandauli).
An educational video developed by Ashoka University and UP Technical Support Unit (UPTSU), focusing on supplementary nutrition and growth monitoring, was unveiled at the ceremony. Additionally, UNICEF released a 12-page booklet offering practical guidance on child nutrition and development.
The event saw the presence of State Minister Pratibha Shukla, Principal Secretary (Women Welfare) Leena Johri, Secretary B Chandrakala, UNICEF Uttar Pradesh CFO Zakari Adam, Director General of Family Welfare Dr Dinesh Kumar, and Director of Child Development Services and Nutrition Sarneet Kaur Broka.
