Following a four-day server migration exercise, the registry department was thronged with people when it reopened on Wednesday. However, the server failed on the very first day, affecting both the booking of appointments and the registration of properties.
Buyers, sellers, and witnesses had been queuing since the morning. A chaotic situation prevailed throughout the day at all eight of the district's registrar offices, with many people leaving disappointed.
At the two sub-registrar offices in Sadar Tehsil, only 62 registrations were completed, compared to the 150 to 170 that typically take place on a normal day.
The situation was similar in other tehsils, where an average of only 25 to 30 per cent of routine registrations could be processed.
Cause Of The Disruption
The disruption followed a planned technical upgrade that began on November 8, which halted all registration work in the district for four days.
The Project: The process involved connecting the Stamps and Registration Department's Meghraj Cloud Server to the National Cloud Server.
The Goal: This state-level upgrade was implemented to make the online registration process more secure and stable.
The Failure: According to departmental sources, the migration was completed, and trials conducted on Monday and Tuesday were successful. However, the server slowed down and experienced technical issues on Wednesday due to the sudden increase in load when the offices opened.
Public Frustration
Long queues formed at the Sadar Tehsil registry offices from early morning. People expressed frustration that the system failed again after a four-day wait.
Savita Nayak from the Cantt area, who came for a registration, said, “I came after four days, hoping my work would be completed today, but the system keeps crashing. We have no idea when we will be called back.”
Advocate Ravi Srivastava stated that server issues had been ongoing for three to four months. “There was great hope that the server would no longer be a problem, but most people had to leave disappointed. Even the booking process was not working properly.”

Official Response And Outlook
To manage the situation and minimise public inconvenience, AIG (Stamps) Sanjay Kumar Dubey announced that, as per government directives, registration services will be available until 6 pm daily until November 15.
Departmental officials claim the National Cloud Server will become fully stable in the coming days. An expert team is continuously working on increasing the server's speed and managing the load. Officials advised that the public will need to remain patient with the registration process for another one to two days.
