In a massive exercise under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of the electoral roll, election authorities have flagged approximately 2.91 crore voters across various categories such as deceased, shifted, or duplicate. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has requested an additional 14 days from the Election Commission to verify these entries before finalising the roll.

Campaign Status And Findings

The revision campaign covers a total voter base of 154.4 million. According to official data, the digitisation work for 99.14 per cent (124 million) of the electorate has been completed. During this process, a significant number of discrepancies were identified.

Breakdown of the 29.1 Million Flagged Voters: CEO Navdeep Rinwa provided specific statistics regarding the voters identified for verification:

  • Shifted: 12.7 million
  • Absent: 8.473 million
  • Deceased: 4.6 million
  • Duplicate Entries: 2.37 million
  • Other Categories: 957,000

Verification Process And Transparency

To ensure accuracy and prevent the disenfranchisement of genuine voters, the CEO has outlined a transparent verification mechanism:

Data Sharing: The list of flagged voters will be provided to the Booth Level Agents (BLA) of all political parties.

Public Access: The lists will also be published on the official websites of the District Election Officers.

Re-enrolment: If any individuals from this list are located during the verification process, their enumeration forms will be completed immediately, and their names will be restored to the electoral roll.
