A 27-year-old software engineer tragically lost his life following a car crash in Greater Noida on Friday night. The victim, Yuvraj Mehta, was returning home from work when his vehicle collided with an unmarked drainage boundary and fell into a deep ditch. Dense fog and poor road conditions were cited as contributing factors in the fatal accident.
The incident occurred near Sector 150, where, according to reports, the thick fog and lack of reflective markings on the road made visibility nearly impossible. Mehta's car struck a high-ground ridge, separating two adjacent drainage basins, and then plunged into a 70-foot-deep water-filled ditch. Bystanders who heard Mehta’s desperate screams tried to assist but were unable to reach him, as the car was entirely submerged.
In a final call to his father, Rajkumar Mehta, Yuvraj said, "Dad, I've fallen into a deep pit filled with water. I'm drowning. Please come and save me. I don't want to die." The anguished father, who had been informed of the accident, rushed to the scene.
Within minutes of the call, local police, divers, and teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived, initiating an intense rescue operation. However, despite their best efforts, it took nearly five hours to retrieve the car and Mehta's body from the water. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a report by NDTV, Mehta's family filed a complaint, accusing authorities of failing to install reflectors or cover the drains along the service road. The victim's father stated that the absence of reflectors in the dense fog contributed to the accident. Sarvesh Kumar, the in-charge of Knowledge Park Police Station, confirmed that any negligence would be investigated, and appropriate legal action would be taken.
Later, local authorities took swift action, filling the hazardous ditch with tonnes of debris and garbage to prevent future accidents.
