In a bold and unexpected move, two women in Deoria, Kavita and Gunja (also known as Bablu), left their abusive marriages and chose to marry each other. The ceremony took place on Thursday evening at the Shiva Temple, also known as Choti Kashi.

The pair, who connected through Instagram, were brought together by their shared experiences of suffering from domestic violence at the hands of their alcoholic husbands. Their decision to marry was motivated by a desire to escape their past lives and start anew, free from the abuse that had tormented them for years.

At the temple, Gunja stepped into the role of the groom. She applied sindoor (vermillion) to Kavita, exchanged garlands with her, and together they completed the traditional seven pheras, symbolising their commitment to each other.

Speaking to the media, Gunja explained their decision: "We were tormented by our husbands' drinking and abusive behaviour. This pushed us to choose a life of peace and love. We have decided to live in Gorakhpur as a couple and work to sustain ourselves."

The couple now plans to rent a room in Gorakhpur and begin their new life together. They are determined to build a peaceful future, free from the struggles they endured in their previous marriages.

The temple priest, Uma Shankar Pandey, shared that the women quietly carried out their ceremony, purchasing garlands and sindoor before performing the rituals. Afterward, they left the temple without drawing attention.

Kavita and Gunja’s decision to marry each other highlights the strength it took for them to overcome their pasts and take control of their futures. Their story of resilience and love offers hope to others in similar situations.
