Members of the Savarna Samaj staged a protest at the Modinagar tehsil on Wednesday, opposing the newly announced UGC rules. Raising slogans against the government, the protesters termed the regulations “black rules” and warned of a larger agitation if they are not withdrawn.
A large number of people gathered at the tehsil premises around 11 am and demonstrated outside the SDM’s office. The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to Tehsildar Rajat Singh, who assured them that their concerns would be forwarded to the higher authorities.
During the protest, participants alleged that the new UGC rules were discriminatory and aimed at suppressing the Savarna community. They said such policies amounted to “dictatorship” and would not be accepted. The protesters clarified that they were not opposed to any caste or community but demanded that government policies ensure equal opportunities for all and give priority based on merit.
The protest continued for nearly an hour. Prominent participants included Pradeep Sharma, Manish, Ravi Raghav, Mohit Kumar, Vineet Sharma, BK Sharma, Amit Sharma, Vinay Sharma and Somesh Sharma, among others.
