UP Green Roads Scheme: Green roads, similar to those in large cities, are set to be constructed in UP's Shahjahanpur as well. A budget of six crores has been allocated for the construction of a 400-metre road under the Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme (Urban). However, before construction begins, the municipal corporation administration must remove permanent encroachments along the route. Notices for this purpose are currently being prepared.
As part of its efforts to enhance the city's traffic system, the Municipal Corporation had proposed 20 roads under the Chief Minister Green Road Scheme. Among them, a 400-metre stretch from Ahmadullah Shah Park in Mohanganj to the residence of MLA Hariprakash Verma was approved. The total cost for building this green road will be approximately Rs 6 crore.
The SS Confrazone organization has been assigned the project, with the work slated to be completed within 15 months. The biggest challenge, however, lies in clearing the permanent encroachments along the road before construction can proceed.
Earlier, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Kumar Mishra had already communicated with the local residents, and some of them have chosen to remove the encroachments voluntarily. The Municipal Corporation administration has now begun preparations to mark the encroachments and issue notices, with the work set to begin this week.
The road will have a six-metre wide traffic lane, with footpaths constructed on both sides. Within this 400-metre stretch, electricity cables will be installed underground beneath the footpaths. Additionally, sewer lines, pipes, and other utility wires may also be routed under the footpaths rather than the road. The remaining space will feature streetlights and greenery. The drains in the area, where the green road will be constructed will be completely removed, and pipes will be laid for water drainage.
Parking of vehicles will be prohibited on the road, and hawkers will not be allowed to set up in the area. A ban will also be enforced on the parking of e-rickshaws, autos, and similar vehicles. High-mast lights will be installed at various points to ensure proper lighting. The road will be lined with greenery on both sides, and benches will be placed in several spots, providing space for people to stroll and relax during the morning and evening hours.
