Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to launch a mass movement for the revival of polluted rivers in Uttar Pradesh, emphasising the need to treat river rejuvenation not merely as a government project but as a collective social and cultural responsibility. He stressed that rivers such as Lucknow's Gomti, Ghaziabad's Hindon, and Kashi's Varuna must be revived through a mission-mode approach.
While reviewing the progress of the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Departments, the Chief Minister instructed the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) within a month to concretely implement the “Aviral-Nirmal Gomti” initiative. He asked that work on the project begin after the monsoon, with public participation as a key element.
Yogi directed that sewer and drainage systems be separated and zero liquid discharge ensured in the Gomti. He also asked for similar action plans for rivers like Hindon and Varuna, assigning divisional commissioners responsibility for river restoration efforts. He further suggested that this year's plantation drive focus especially on riverbanks.

During the review of the Jal Jeevan Mission and “Har Ghar Nal” scheme, the CM stressed the need for ensuring quality and timely completion of work, especially in remote areas. He emphasised activating village-level water committees to encourage community participation.
It was reported that out of 42,810 drinking water-related complaints registered so far, 38,161 have been resolved. The Chief Minister insisted that all complaints must be addressed within 24 hours and that the quality of water should never be compromised.
In view of the summer season, Yogi directed officials to ensure uninterrupted water supply across the state, with all district-level units operating on round-the-clock alert. Faulty hand pumps must be repaired immediately, and all available drinking water sources must be functional. He also called for the establishment of control rooms and appointment of nodal officers at the district level.
Highlighting the need for accountability, the CM ordered that roads dug up for pipeline work be repaired promptly. Executive Engineers are to inspect the sites alongside local public representatives to assess work quality and confirm water supply. The Chief Minister also called for an independent evaluation by a reputed institution of the Har Ghar Nal Yojana’s impact in Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions to understand its effect on the local social landscape.
