In a proactive step to enhance flood preparedness and disaster response, the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (UPSDMA) conducted a large-scale mock exercise across 118 flood-prone tehsils in 44 districts on Thursday. The coordinated drill aimed to assess inter-departmental coordination, availability of resources, and the effectiveness of relief and rescue operations from the village to the state level.
The statewide exercise began at 9:30 AM and simulated five critical flood scenarios—villages being submerged, individuals stranded on rooftops and trees, capsizing of rescue boats, collapse of roads and bridges, and the circulation of fake news or rumours. Demonstrations also included the setup and management of relief camps, establishment of flood posts, and deployment of mobile field hospitals.
UPSDMA Vice President, Lieutenant General Yogendra Dimri, monitored and reviewed the preparedness activities via video conferencing from Farrukhabad. He emphasised that the key objective of the mock drill was to evaluate the state’s ability to respond swiftly and cohesively during flood emergencies.
Brigadier Ravindra Gurung, Senior Advisor to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), coordinated the exercise across all tehsils through video conferencing from Yojana Bhawan.
District Disaster Control Rooms, local administrations, police, health departments, and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with other relevant departments, actively participated in the exercise.
Officials stated that such mock drills play a crucial role in strengthening the state's disaster response mechanisms and help ensure minimal loss of life during real flood situations.
