In view of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued fresh instructions to all medical institutions to remain alert and strengthen preparedness. Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma, has directed medical colleges, district hospitals, and divisional-level health officials to ensure comprehensive arrangements for testing, treatment, and patient monitoring.
In an official communication, Sharma has enclosed the Union Health Ministry’s advisory dated May 29 and emphasised the mandatory availability of essential resources such as medicines, PPE kits, Covid-19 testing facilities, isolation beds, ICU beds, ventilators, and medical oxygen in all healthcare establishments across the state.
Sharma has also instructed that deficiencies identified during the recent mock drills, particularly concerning oxygen plant readiness and other critical infrastructure, must be rectified immediately.
As per the updated guidelines:
-Covid-19 testing is now mandatory for 5 per cent of serious respiratory and influenza cases.
-Samples of patients showing a CT value below 25 in RT-PCR tests must be sent to the Microbiology Department of KGMU, Lucknow for genome sequencing.
-District-level Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) units will monitor such patients.
Additionally, all Covid-related data must be updated daily on the Unified Disease Surveillance Portal (UDSP).
