A horrific incident took place in Parsa village under Ahirauli Bazar police station in Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday morning around 8 am, where a 30-year-old man, Sikandar Gupta, brutally murdered his mother and wife by smashing their heads with a brick.
According to the police, Sikandar first attacked his mother Runa Devi while she was sitting in the sun on the rooftop. When his 28-year-old wife, Priyanka, rushed upstairs after hearing her screams and tried to save her mother-in-law, Sikandar assaulted her as well, killing her in the same manner. After committing the murders, he reportedly sat near the bodies on the roof.
When neighbours heard the screams and reached the house, they found the door locked from inside. On being called out, the accused allegedly began throwing pieces of flesh at them and was even seen consuming some of it. He was speaking incoherently, at times claiming he was intoxicated and at other moments saying he remembered nothing.
Police were informed by the village head. Station House Officer Pravindra Rai arrived at the spot along with a forensic team, which seized the blood-stained brick and other evidence. A case of murder was registered based on a complaint filed by the accused’s sister, Pratima. Sikandar was later admitted to the psychiatric ward of AIIMS on Tuesday.
Background And Events Leading To The crime
According to a report by Jagran.com, the accused had gone with his wife to her parental village Saura in Deoria on Sunday. While returning, a dispute broke out in Hata, where Sikandar allegedly beat his wife. Neighbours intervened and sent the couple home.
Instead of settling down, Sikandar then went to Lakshmipur village, about eight kilometres away, where he created a disturbance by banging on doors and shouting. His maternal cousin Sonu eventually took him to his sister’s house and advised him to remain calm before leaving.
Later that evening, Runa Devi scolded Sikandar for his drug addiction and disruptive behaviour, which led to a heated argument with his wife. He went to sleep without eating. On Monday morning, he remained silent for some time before carrying out the killings.
Family And Personal History
Sikandar’s father, Banwari Gupta, died in a road accident in Kaptanganj six years ago, after which the responsibility of the family fell on him. His four elder sisters were already married. The family owned about five kathas of land.
After his marriage, Sikandar had gone to Saudi Arabia twice for work and was most recently working as a labourer in Mumbai. He had returned home only a month ago. Over the past few years, he developed a serious addiction to alcohol and marijuana, which frequently led to conflicts at home. The couple had no children even after five years of marriage.
The investigation is ongoing.
