UP News: There are plans to levy challans for violating vehicle lanes on the Agra Expressway and other expressways. Not only that, but individuals who fail to wear seat belts in cars and other vehicles will also have to pay fines. The Transport Department's Road Safety Unit has advised UPDA and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to update the software of highway cameras and issue challans in cases of lane violations and failure to wear seat belts.
Generally, vehicles go in three lanes on the highway. Heavy vehicles, like as trucks and buses, travel in the left lane, while light vehicles, such as cars and other vehicles, travel in the middle. The third lane stays unoccupied, allowing a car, for example, to pass a vehicle traveling ahead.
Fine Amount For Lane Violation, Seatbelt Offenders
Only overspeeding cars have been penalised Rs 2,000 each so far, thanks to cameras mounted at various locations along the highway. Additional Transport Commissioner Road Safety Pushpasen Satyarthi stated that plans are on to levy a Rs 2,000 fine for violating the lane and Rs 1,000 for failing to wear seat belts in cars, among other things. This will necessitate changes to the software of the cameras.
The UPDA and NHAI will shortly make a decision based on the road safety unit's proposal. This can effectively reduce traffic accidents.
On July 10, a sleeper bus and a milk tanker rushed off the Agra Expressway's track designated for heavy vehicles, leaving eighteen people dead. The Save Life Foundation's third-party inquiry highlighted the incident.
