In a renewed push to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s economy, Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh has emphasised the need to fully harness the potential of the tourism sector to help the state achieve its target of becoming a $1 trillion (Rs 76.5 lakh crore) economy. He stressed that all resources under the Tourism and Culture Department must be mobilised with greater momentum.

Addressing a meeting held at the Tourism Bhawan on Thursday, the Minister stated that several countries rely heavily on tourism to drive their economies, and Uttar Pradesh too can significantly benefit from this sector. He added that the state’s tourism policy should be widely publicised to attract investment and generate employment opportunities.

Singh pointed out that while Uttar Pradesh currently ranks first in domestic tourism in India, efforts must now be made to boost the inflow of international tourists as well.

During the meeting, advisory firm Delight gave a comprehensive presentation on leveraging artificial intelligence to count tourists and outlined a future strategy for the sector. Chief Minister’s Advisor Avneesh Awasthi instructed the organisation to explore further ways to enhance the tourism sector’s economic contribution.

The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, Tourism, Mukesh Kumar Meshram; Special Secretary, Isha Priya; and Director, Tourism, Prakhar Mishra, among other officials.
