In a significant administrative boost, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the proposal to increase the number of Special Secretary posts in the Uttar Pradesh Secretariat Service cadre by eight. With this, the total number of Special Secretary positions in the cadre has risen from 35 to 43.

The Cabinet had approved the proposal earlier on 6 May, but the official order was pending. According to sources, a senior official had temporarily put the file on hold, reportedly awaiting the retirement of two Joint Secretaries from the Secretariat Service. One officer retired on October 31 and the other on November 30, after which the file moved forward for approval.

Following the Cabinet’s decision, the Finance Department has now issued the formal order to create the additional posts. Secretariat Association President Arjun Dev Bharti thanked the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary for clearing the long-pending expansion.

The increase in posts aligns with the recommendations of the Pay Committee-2016. For promotion purposes, separate seniority lists will be prepared for Section Officers (Hindi) and Section Officers (Urdu), after which a combined seniority list will be created to determine promotions. The decision follows recommendations made by a committee headed by the Chief Secretary.
