In a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved multiple major infrastructure projects, including the construction of new bridges and flyovers in Kanpur, Unnao, and Balrampur. These projects, estimated to be completed within two years, will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.

To improve connectivity between Kanpur and Shuklaganj (Unnao), a four-lane bridge will be built across the Ganga River for Rs 163 crore. The new structure will be constructed 50 metres from the existing old bridge, which was declared severely dilapidated during a statewide inspection of over 700 bridges—ordered by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath—last year. Of these, 83 were found to be in poor condition.

In Kanpur, a four-lane Rail Over Bridge (ROB) will also be constructed over the Kanpur Central–Rawatpur–Anwarganj rail section for Rs 151 crore. Additionally, the action plan of Setu Nigam includes a four-lane flyover on GT Road and a two-lane flyover near Jarib Chowki on Ghantaghar Road to ease traffic congestion in the city.

Meanwhile, in Balrampur, preparations are underway for the construction of a 629-metre-long rail overbridge on the Tulsipur–Gonda rail section, near the Devipatan temple. The project will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 57 crore and is part of the state’s broader plan to upgrade its ageing transport infrastructure.
