With the Kharif season approaching, the Uttar Pradesh government has assured farmers of adequate fertiliser availability across the state. Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi has announced that the state currently has a stock of 15.96 lakh tonnes of urea and 5.86 lakh tonnes of phosphatic fertilisers (DAP and NPK combined), enough to meet the seasonal demand.

To ensure proper distribution, the Agriculture Department has directed all District Magistrates (DMs) to take strict action against black marketing, overpricing, forced tagging, and misuse of fertilisers. Special monitoring has also been initiated in international and interstate border districts to prevent illegal transportation and hoarding of fertilisers.

The minister emphasised the government’s commitment to providing an uninterrupted supply to farmers based on their actual requirements. Misuse of subsidised neem-coated urea or Technical Grade Urea (TGU) will lead to strict action, including FIRs. Farmers are encouraged to report any cases of forced tagging or malpractice by dealers at the Kisan HQ Fertiliser Control Room (0522-2209650) or their respective district control rooms.

Farmers are also advised not to be misled by branding, as all variants like Bharat Urea or Bharat DAP maintain uniform quality. They should purchase fertiliser only based on the needs of their current crops.

In terms of availability across regions, Lucknow division leads with 1.75 lakh tonnes of urea and 67,398 tonnes of phosphatic fertilisers, followed by Bareilly with 1.28 lakh tonnes and 48,277 tonnes respectively, and Kanpur with 1.27 lakh tonnes of urea and 56,856 tonnes of phosphatic fertilisers. Other regions such as Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, and Moradabad also have substantial stock in place. Smaller divisions like Jhansi and Chitrakootdham have comparatively lower reserves, but still enough to meet local demand.
