To enhance road safety and minimise accident fatalities across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has transformed 'road safety' into a public movement. The state government has introduced two key initiatives—'Sadak Suraksha Mitra' and 'Rahveer'—encouraging youth and ordinary citizens to take on the role of lifesavers. The primary objective is to ensure immediate assistance during accidents and foster a culture of responsibility regarding traffic rules.
'Sadak Suraksha Mitra'
Youth Volunteer Network in 28 Districts The central government's 'Sadak Suraksha Mitra' (Road Safety Friends) program has been effectively implemented in 28 districts across the state. The initiative focuses on training young people in basic road safety rules and emergency management.
Budget And Allocation: A total budget of Rs 1,400,000 has been approved for the program. Each active district has been allocated Rs 50,000 to conduct awareness activities.
Training And Registration: Following the inaugural camp in Noida (Gautam Buddh Nagar), 423 youth volunteers have registered on the 'My Bharat' portal. These 'Mitras' are tasked with encouraging safe driving practices at the regional level.
'Rahveer' Scheme
Rs 25,000 Reward for Saving Lives Recognising the critical importance of the 'Golden Hour'—the first hour after an accident—the government has launched the 'Rahveer' (Road Hero) scheme to incentivize bystanders to help victims.
Incentive: Any citizen who transports an accident victim to the hospital within the critical timeframe is awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
Real Heroes: So far, five citizens from the districts of Basti, Kaushambi, Sitapur, Aligarh, and Kasganj have been selected and honored as 'Rahveers'.
Administration: To ensure transparency and speed in disbursing rewards, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) of each district has been appointed as the nodal officer.
