Following a series of recent fire incidents resulting in loss of life and property across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the state’s fire department on Thursday and directed major structural reforms to strengthen it.
Emphasising the need for a robust, modern, and responsive system in line with the state’s growing population, industrial expansion, and rapid urbanisation, the Chief Minister said the fire service must evolve beyond firefighting into an integrated system of disaster management, rescue operations, and emergency response.
He directed the formation of specialised regional units equipped to handle chemical, biological, radiological incidents, and emergencies involving high-rise buildings. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of equipping the department with modern technology and trained personnel.
To enhance efficiency and transparency, Yogi Adityanath ordered the establishment of an accounts cadre in every district and the creation of additional posts at the State Fire Training College to improve training and research quality.
Following his directives, 98 new posts in the gazetted cadre and around 922 in the non-gazetted cadre will be created, strengthening the department’s administrative and operational capacity at the district, regional, and headquarters levels.

The Chief Minister further instructed that fire and emergency services be made swiftly available in all districts. Considering the rising number of accidents on expressways, he ordered that small fire posts with fire tenders be set up every 100 kilometres to ensure immediate response within the golden hour.
Officials informed the meeting that adequate fire personnel have already been deployed at the airports of Kushinagar, Azamgarh, Shravasti, Kanpur Nagar, Ayodhya, Aligarh, Moradabad, Chitrakoot, and Sonbhadra.
Yogi Adityanath directed that the departmental reorganisation be completed in a time-bound manner to ensure people benefit promptly from the improved services.
