Students in government secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh will become proficient in computers and electronics, thanks to a new initiative. The Secondary Education Department and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer the 'O' Level course in 778 state-run schools.

This course, recognised by the National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), is considered mandatory for government job recruitment and promotions in several states.

Students from grades 9 to 12 will study one module each year, covering topics like IT Tools and Network Basics (9th), Web Designing and Publishing (10th), Python Programming and Problem Solving (11th), and Internet of Things (IoT) and its applications (12th).

Each 120-hour module will include 48 hours of theory and 72 hours of practical training. Upon completing all four modules, students will receive an 'O' Level certificate, making them skilled in modern technology by the time they graduate.

This initiative will benefit 16 to 32 students per school, impacting approximately 40,000 students statewide annually. The training will enhance students' digital and IT skills, preparing them for various career opportunities.

Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary of Secondary Education Deepak Kumar, Director General of School Education Kanchan Verma, and Basic Education Secretary Dr Sarika Mohan, were present during the MoU signing.
