All council schools in Uttar Pradesh will now integrate practical skill training with academic learning under the newly launched Learning by Doing programme. The initiative aims to develop schools into skill hubs, where students in classes 6 to 8 will receive hands-on exposure to activities across various trades.

The programme has already begun in 2,274 upper primary and composite schools during the 2024-25 academic session. An additional 3,288 schools will be brought under the initiative in 2025-26, after which the facility will be expanded to all composite and upper primary schools in the state.

Director General of School Education Monika Rani has issued directions to all District Basic Education Officers for smooth implementation. Schools selected to host the labs must meet specific criteria, including an extra classroom, adequate land for agriculture-related activities, a mathematics and science teacher, at least 60 students in classes 6 to 8, three appointed teachers, functional electricity, boundary walls, and drinking water. Preference will be given to schools with newly transferred, trained teachers.

As part of the programme, 155 types of equipment are being supplied by the state, while School Management Committees will procure another 50 types of tools locally. Training for mathematics and science teachers has been mandated.
