The Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Department has initiated preparations for the autumn sugarcane planting season 2025-26, aiming to boost sugarcane productivity and sugar production in the state. This season, the department plans to prepare 46,10,000 bud saplings for planting across 3,20,000 hectares.

A total of 64,856 quintals of breeder seed sugarcane has been allocated to the 45 sugarcane-producing districts of the state to ensure a healthy and disease-free seed supply. The seeds have been produced at the research fields of the Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Research Council, Shahjahanpur, and on private and cooperative sugar mill farms.

Farmers have been instructed to contact their District Sugarcane Officer or Senior Sugarcane Development Inspector to obtain the seed. Region-wise allocations include: Saharanpur - 5,147 quintals, Meerut - 5,751, Moradabad - 8,319, Bareilly - 11,579, Lucknow - 16,652, Ayodhya - 1,892, Devipatan - 5,925, Gorakhpur - 5,053, and Deoria - 4,538 quintals.

The department has also allocated saplings for new sugarcane varieties Co Lkh 16202 and Co Sha 18231, to be planted using the single bud method. Under the three-tier seed production programme, foundation nurseries will be developed on farmers’ fields to further strengthen seed production and ensure quality planting material across the state.
