In a shocking case of fraud, a woman allegedly posed as the wife of a deceased man, forged a backdated death certificate, and attempted to claim his Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) funds and property, police and local officials said.

The victim, 63-year-old Lakshman, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, Babarpur, was unmarried and lived alone. He received Rs 50,000 under PMAY, which he withdrew before falling seriously ill. On October 4, 2019, he was admitted to Saifai’s RIMS Hospital, where he died of cardiac arrest the same day. The hospital issued an official death certificate confirming the date.

Here's How And When Fraud Began

A woman from Dhaurakha village (Bharthana tehsil, Etawah), whose husband had died earlier, allegedly began living with Lakshman before his death. She claimed they married on February 17, 2018.

Enrolled herself in the local voter list as 'wife of Shri Krishna' (a completely different name).

Here's What Officials Said

Local ward member Himanshu Chauhan exposed the scam and filed complaints with the CM, DM, SDM, EO, and Nagar Panchayat Chairperson, demanding a probe.
