The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved the establishment of a new state university, Swami Shukdevanand University, in Shahjahanpur. Movable and immovable assets worth approximately Rs 108.03 crore from the Mumukshu Ashram Trust will be made available to the state government for this purpose.
Currently, the trust runs Swami Shukdevanand College, Swami Shukdevanand Law College, Shri Dharmanand Saraswati Inter College, and Shri Shankar Mumukshu Vidyapeeth. Following cabinet approval, all these institutions will be upgraded and brought under the university.

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna stated that the trust’s five units will come under the university once it is formally established. The trust’s buildings cover an area of 33,092.12 square metres, and 21.01 acres of land are available, of which 20 acres will be allocated to the university.
In the first phase, an MoU will be signed between the Higher Education Department and the Mumukshu Ashram Trust, followed by formal procedures under the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973. A separate society will also be formed to manage the university.

Officials say the new university will create expanded higher education opportunities for the youth of Shahjahanpur and contribute significantly to the development of the region. Currently, 38 state universities operate in Uttar Pradesh.
