With the three-tier Panchayat elections scheduled for March-April of next year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a comprehensive preparation campaign in Gorakhpur. The party is focusing on building a robust organisational structure down to the grassroots level and meticulously managing the ongoing voter list revision.
Following recent guidance from State General Secretary (Organisation) Dharmpal, the party has accelerated its election-related activities. A series of meetings are being held to energise party workers and implement a ground-level strategy.
A key element of the plan is a newly established organisational framework for the elections, extending from the regional to the individual booth level. Teams consisting of one convener and two co-conveners have been formed for regional, district and mandal (division) units. Additionally, conveners have been appointed for every block, ward, and booth, with clear instructions to begin their work.
A central component of the BJP's strategy is the active supervision of the current voter list revision. Party workers have been instructed to scrutinise the existing lists to identify and request the removal of ineligible voters, such as those who are deceased or have moved from the area. Simultaneously, they are compiling lists of newly eligible young people who have turned 18 and are working to ensure their inclusion. Workers have also been directed to be mindful of the new delimitation of constituencies during this process.
Alongside electoral roll management, there is a major push to mobilise supporters. This includes re-engaging with current village heads (pradhans) and members of Block (Kshetra) and District (Zila) Panchayats who are aligned with the party. Furthermore, lists are being prepared of individuals who were not supporters in the last election but have now expressed a desire to join the BJP.
Rajesh Gupta, the BJP's Metropolitan Convener for Gorakhpur, confirmed the party's detailed approach. "Conveners have been appointed down to the booth level, and their responsibilities are clearly defined," he said. "We are placing special emphasis on the voter list, and our workers have already started on this task, keeping an eye on every voter. Every effort is being made to ensure that the maximum number of Panchayat representatives are party supporters, so the process of delivering our welfare schemes to every eligible person continues uninterrupted."
