UP Invest News: The Excise Department, in collaboration with Invest UP, is organising an investment conference for the liquor industry at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on Wednesday. Over 200 companies are expected to participate, with the Excise Department hoping to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 5,000 crore.

According to Minister of State for Excise (Independent Charge) Nitin Agrawal, the state has previously received 142 proposals for investment worth Rs 39,479.39 crore in the alcohol-based industry through Invest UP. Subsequently, 135 MoUs were signed, and 46 companies have already invested Rs 7,888.73 crore. Among these, 19 companies have commenced production with an investment of Rs 2,339.6 crore, while 27 units are under establishment.

Furthermore, several companies have expanded their units with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. As a result, the total investment in the sector has reached Rs 10,888.73 crore. The upcoming conference aims to attract further investment and boost liquor production in the state.

According to Excise Minister Nitin Agrawal, the state's new excise policy has led to a reduction of 3,171 liquor shops in the current financial year. Conversely, there has been an increase of 3,392 beer shops and 2,799 foreign liquor shops. Notably, permission has been granted to sell beer in 2,791 country liquor shops located in rural areas.

The Minister highlighted the significant growth in revenue generated by the Excise Department, from Rs 14,273.33 crore in 2016-17 to Rs 52,573.07 crore in 2024-25. He also emphasised Uttar Pradesh's leading position in the country, producing 182.6 crore litres of power alcohol under the biofuel policy.

Veiled Sales Announced Along Kanwar Yatra Route

Regarding liquor sales on Kanwar Yatra routes, the Excise Minister stated that District Magistrates will decide on the matter. When informed about the arrangement of selling liquor behind curtains in some districts, he clarified that the District Magistrates themselves would make such arrangements.
